The Three Most Common Air Conditioning Problems To Know How To Resolve

by Kent George

Air conditioning systems are great to have for your home because they keep your family comfortable, especially during the hotter months of the year. However, at some point, you are going to have to fix some problems that your air conditioner is most likely to run across. With regular maintenance, you can help prevent many issues, but at some point, you may be dealing with some of these most common problems:

Faulty Wiring:

Faulty wiring is really dangerous because it is a fire hazard. You will notice potential faulty wiring when you notice that your AC isn't powering up as quickly or won't power up at all. In this situation, it is best to call the professionals who will easily be able to detect which wiring is causing the problem and how to best resolve it. Attempting to make these repairs on your own can be dangerous because of the risk of electrocution or fire.

Low Refrigerant:

Refrigerant is the chemical in your air conditioning system that helps to cool the air in your home. If the refrigerant levels are low, then your AC is going to have to work harder to keep your home at a comfortable temperature. This can lead to increased energy bills, which is something you definitely want to avoid. Sometimes the problem could be that there is a leak in the ducts or it could be that the refrigerant needs to be recharged. Inspect for leaks by looking for any water buildup around the condenser located on the outside of your home. If you notice a leak, you can purchase duct sealer from your local hardware store to seal it yourself. If you don't notice a leak, then the next best thing to do is call the professionals who can double check for any leaks and then recharge the refrigerant if none are found.

Fan is Not Working:

The fan that is located inside of your air conditioning's condenser unit on the outside of your home is important because it pulls the hot air out of your home in order to let the cool air in. If the fan is not working properly, then your air conditioner will have to work harder or it can even begin to overheat and cause many more issues. The best thing to do is replace the fan, which you can purchase from your local hardware store. You will need to power off the air conditioning system and remove the grill of the condenser. You should be able to see the fan that can easily be pulled out by using a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold it in place.
