If you have a tennis or basketball court with an asphalt flooring, you will want to use asphalt paint to give the sports area vibrant coloring, allowing players to see guidelines needed to play their game. Coloring a court with asphalt paint is not that difficult to apply on your own. Here are some instructions for you to use in revamping your court with a fresh, new paint job.
Start By Cleaning
Before you add paint to your court, you need to clean it off so that you can make any necessary repairs before painting. Use a push broom to remove larger debris from the surface. Afterwards, use a pressure washer to thoroughly rinse the area of all smaller debris.
Make Necessary Repairs
If you had found areas with cracks or holes in your court flooring, they need to be filled in for safety reasons. Push some small pieces of crushed gravel into any crevices you find on the asphalt floor. Push them as far into the area as you can using a screwdriver or putty knife. Add more gravel so that it fills the area so it is level with the rest of the floor.
Use rubberized asphalt chalk to fill in the voids around the gravel. Push the nozzle of your caulk container into the crevice as far as possible and squeeze the contents inside. Use a putty knife to smooth the caulk over the top of the blemished area so that it is uniform with the rest of the floor. Allow it to harden before starting your paint job.
Painting The Court
Purchase asphalt paint in a few colors. Select one color for the main portion of the floor and use contrasting colors for the court guidelines so they can be seen without trouble. Paint the solid color of the flooring first. Use a roller or paintbrush for the best results. Spraying the surface works as well, but you will want to cover the edges of the court so you get crisp, clear lines if you use this method.
After the paint dries, use chalk to plot out the positioning of the guidelines. Paint them on using small rollers. Use two coats of paint for all colors, as this will make the colors brighter. After the paint has dried, spray on a coating of sealcoating to protect the paint from premature wearing. It will also protect the color from fading out if it located where it receives a lot of sunlight. For more information about sealcoating, contact a company like Stritar Seal Coating.Share
